Hi, I am Mayumi Iris. I was born with profound sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. My cochleas are unable to change sound waves into nerve impulses which the brain interprets into information. My otolaryngologist recommended me to undergo a surgery for cochlear implant so I could hear and then develop my speech. However, my parents do not have enough money to cover the cost of the implantation which we intend to be done in November 2012, this year. The PHP1.25 million quotation of MED-EL for one cochlear implant far exceeds my parents’ annual gross income. I am appealing for financial assistance and also prayers that I will be fine before, during and after surgery and be able to hear with the use of the technology (Concerto implant).
